This field guide to birds is intended to assist in finding and identifying birds. It is meant to be concise for quick and easy reference while at home or in the field.

• A free communinity-based guide to birds and birding with both global and regional information.
• A field guide to birds and not an encyclopedia or scientific species account.
• Balanced between beginning birders, advanced birders, and scientific communities.
• Maintained for creation of static HTML versions of all or parts of the site for downloading and offline usage.
• A source for creating checklists of regional birds.

Both Wikipedia and Wikispecies are intended to contain more comprehensive information about a species. The information in WikiBird is limited and structured to allow for sharing common pages with regional views of the information that is in a consistent format for each species. Time is sometimes limited when a species sighting occurs so quick access is needed to clear and concise descriptions. References can lead to additional information as needed.
