Range, Abundance, and Seasonal Variations
he Plain Chahalaca is a common bird in the Tamaulipan Brushlands. It is easily found in areas where birds are fed. Watch for them at Bentsen State Park, Santa Ana NWR, Frontera Audubon Center, and many other sites! They are non-migratory and common throughout the year. They are well known for their loud choruses, heard most often early in the morning and in the spring.

Field Marks
Sexes similar. Large, small-headed, round-winged, long-tailed, ground-dwelling bird. Plain brown plumage, darker on upperparts. Long dark tail with white tip. Reddish throat not always visible.
