Field Marks

Large, triangular head, gray upperparts, fairly large bill with orange lower mandible, breast somewhat darker than throat, yellowish belly and undertail coverts, indistinct wing bars.

Similar species

The Olive-sided Flycatcher is similar but has darker sides, darker bill, and white patches above the wings (not always visible). Western Wood-Pewee is smaller with a darker bill. Empidonax flycatchers are much smaller.
