Field Marks
Adult Bald Eagles are easily distinguished, even at a considerable distance, by the massive appearance and white head and tail on a black body.
Similar species
In flight, easily told from Turkey Vultures by the straight, horizontal wings (like a plank across the back). Much larger, with noticeably longer wings than any buteo. The only other bird in North America with a similar color pattern to an adult Bald Eagle is the very different Great Black-backed Gull.
